Arunachal Pradesh tours for foreign travellers: Tawang, Ziro and the permit, planned around you
A private, tailor-made trip through Monpa and Apatani country, with family homestays, a local guide, a hill driver and the Protected Area Permit arranged through a registered operator. Tell us your dates and pace, and we reply with a day-by-day proposal and a price.
Villages and walking first, sightseeing lists second
Most overseas travellers who write to us want daily life, tribal culture and time on foot, not a checklist of viewpoints from a car window. We plan for that.
Family homestays
Nights with Monpa families around Dirang, Sangti and Tawang, and with an Apatani family in Ziro. Hotels only where no good homestay exists.
Honest driving times
Arunachal is mountain road. Every proposal lists kilometres and hours for each day, and says plainly which days are long.
Time on foot
Village and valley walks in Sangti, Zemithang and the Apatani villages of Ziro, at a pace that suits your group.
Private vehicle and hill driver
A private SUV such as a Toyota Innova Crysta for the whole trip, with a driver who knows these roads.
English-speaking local guide
One guide for the whole tour, who introduces you to people in the villages and explains what you are seeing.
Permit handled
The Protected Area Permit is filed by a government-registered tour operator, as the rules require. We coordinate it, so you write to one person.

About the driving. Days 1, 8, 9, 10 and 12 are long road days of 6 to 8 hours, broken with village and market stops. Times are approximate and depend on road and weather. If that is more driving than you want, there are two easy changes: drop Zemithang, or take a shorter trip to Ziro Valley only, about four days from Tezpur with one long drive each way (260 km, 7 to 8 hours).

The Protected Area Permit, in plain terms
- Foreign nationals need a Protected Area Permit (PAP) to enter Arunachal Pradesh. It cannot be obtained on arrival.
- It is applied for through a government-registered tour operator, and a registered guide travels with you.
- Foreign travellers are typically required to travel as a group of at least two.
- The application should go in at least 15 days before you enter the state. Writing to us three to four weeks before you arrive in India leaves a comfortable margin.
- You will need a passport valid for at least six months and a valid Indian visa. Copies are sent by email to the operator at the booking stage, never through this website.
Permit rules for the Northeast are under review and can change, so we confirm the current position for your nationality and dates in the proposal. The full background is in our guide to the PAP for foreigners and the Northeast India permits guide.
Coming from Bhutan? Many travellers reach Guwahati straight after a Bhutan trip. Tell us, and we keep monasteries to the main ones and give the days to Arunachal's villages, valleys and tribal culture. From Tezpur you can continue to Kaziranga or Majuli in Assam, which need no permit.
Ask for a proposal
Free, and no obligation. We reply by email within 24 hours with questions or a first day-by-day plan.
Questions international travellers ask
Can foreigners visit Arunachal Pradesh?
Yes. Foreign nationals need a Protected Area Permit (PAP), which has to be arranged before you enter the state. It is applied for through a government-registered tour operator, and a registered guide travels with you.
Do you arrange the Protected Area Permit?
The permit is included in the trip. It is filed by a government-registered tour operator, as the rules require, and we coordinate it with them so you deal with one person. Passport and visa copies are sent by email to the operator at the booking stage, never through a web form.
How far ahead should we write to you?
At least three to four weeks before you arrive in India. The permit application should go in at least 15 days before you enter Arunachal, and the better village homestays have only a few rooms.
Can a solo traveller join?
Foreign nationals are typically required to travel in Arunachal Pradesh as a group of at least two, with a registered guide. If you are travelling alone, tell us in the form and we will say honestly what is possible for your dates.
How long are the driving days?
On the 12-day route, five days are long road days of 6 to 8 hours. They come from the mountain distances between Guwahati, Tawang and Ziro. Every proposal lists the driving time for each day, and we can drop a stop or add a night to shorten them.
We are coming from Bhutan. Can the tour start in Guwahati?
Yes. Tours start with a pick-up in Guwahati and can end in Tezpur or Guwahati, so the trip fits after a Bhutan journey or before Kaziranga and Majuli in Assam.
How do we pay from abroad?
Prices are quoted in Indian rupees. International travellers pay by bank transfer, either a service such as Wise or a standard SWIFT wire, to Pramila Business Solutions, the registered company that operates this site. Cancellation terms are written in every proposal.
Can we talk before we decide?
Yes. Add a WhatsApp number in the form or ask in your message, and we will arrange a call at a time that suits your time zone.
