Helping Travellers Discover Northeast India
Northeast India is one of the most extraordinary travel destinations in the world — yet it remains one of the least understood. From the living root bridges of Meghalaya to the snow-capped peaks of Tawang, from Kaziranga's one-horned rhinos to the crystal-clear waters of Dawki, this region has it all.
Our mission is simple: make Northeast India accessible to every traveller. We research the routes, break down the costs, decode the permit requirements, and write the guides we wish we had before our first trip. Whether you are a solo backpacker on a tight budget or a family planning a comfortable getaway, our guides are written for you.
We cover all 8 states — Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Sikkim — with the depth and honesty that this incredible region deserves.

Our Values
Three principles that guide everything we publish.
Written from Experience
We have explored the winding roads of Tawang, camped by the Dawki River, witnessed the Hornbill Festival in Kisama, and trekked through Dzukou Valley. Our guides come from real trips, not internet research.
No Sponsored Content
Our editorial content is independent of any partnerships. We recommend what we genuinely believe is best for our readers, not what earns us the highest commission. If we use affiliate links, we tell you.
Always Updated
Permits change, prices fluctuate, and new routes open up. We keep our guides current so you can plan with confidence. Every guide shows when it was last updated and reviewed.
The NE Travel Team
A collective of writers, photographers, and Northeast India locals working together to produce honest, useful travel content. Every article on this site is written, edited, and fact-checked by this team.
Travel Writers
Itineraries, destination guides, and trip cost breakdowns are written by staff writers and contributing travellers — grounded in first-hand visits across all 8 Northeast Indian states.
Permits & Logistics
Inner Line Permits, Protected Area Permits, and inter-state transport rules change often. Our logistics editors verify every requirement with state tourism boards before each publication.
Local Network
We work with verified local guides, homestay owners, and drivers across Meghalaya, Sikkim, Arunachal, Nagaland, and Assam. Their on-ground feedback shapes every recommendation we publish.
Editors & Fact-Checkers
Every article passes editorial review before publication and is re-verified at least once per quarter. Permit fees, distances, opening hours, and prices are checked against primary sources.

Our Editorial Methodology
Every guide on this site is built from on-ground research, primary sources, and quarterly fact-checks. Here's exactly how we produce and maintain content.
1. First-hand research
Every itinerary on this site is written after at least one full trip through the region. We document driving distances with our own vehicle odometers, check permit counters in person, eat at the homestays we recommend, and photograph the landscapes ourselves. We do not rely on press trips, sponsored fam-tours, or syndicated content. When a guide says "the drive from Guwahati to Tawang takes 12 hours including Sela Pass," it's because someone on this team drove it.
2. Primary-source verification
Permits, fees, opening hours, and entry rules are verified against state tourism boards (Meghalaya Tourism, Sikkim Tourism, Assam Tourism, etc.) and official government portals like arunachalilp.com and the Kaziranga National Park portal. Where a primary source isn't available, we cite the verified district administration or call the tourism office directly.
3. Local network & native checks
We maintain working relationships with verified local operators across Meghalaya (Khasi-run homestays in Cherrapunji and Mawlynnong), Sikkim (Pelling and Lachung guides), Nagaland (Khonoma village hosts), and Assam (Majuli satra residents). Before publishing a destination guide, we share the draft with at least one local contact for accuracy on cultural nuances and current ground conditions.
4. Quarterly content refresh
Northeast India changes fast — new homestays open, permit fees revise, road conditions shift after monsoons, and festivals shift dates. We re-verify every published guide once per quarter. Our editorial calendar tracks the last-checked date on every article, and the Modified date in each post's structured data reflects the most recent fact-check.
5. Affiliate & commercial transparency
Some links on this site are affiliate links (Travelpayouts, Klook, Hotellook, Aviasales, EKTA, KiwiTaxi, Welcome Pickups). When you book a hotel, flight, transfer, or insurance through these links we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We never accept payment to feature a destination, hotel, or operator — recommendations are based on independent first-hand experience. Affiliate revenue keeps the site free and ad-light.
