Ziro Valley for foreign travellers: Apatani villages, a family homestay and very little driving
Ziro is the part of Arunachal Pradesh you can enjoy slowly: one long drive in, then days on foot among Apatani villages and rice fields. We arrange the homestay, the guide and the permit through a registered operator.
What you come to Ziro for
Apatani villages
Hong is the largest. Bamboo houses stand close together on stilts, and a few elder women still carry the facial tattoos and nose plugs the Apatani were known for.
Rice and fish in one field
The Apatani raise fish in their paddies, a farming system worked by hand. Planting is from March to May and the harvest turns the valley gold in September.
Walking and cycling
The valley floor is gentle, at about 1,524 m. Villages are close enough to walk or cycle between, with pine hills around for viewpoints.
A family homestay
You stay with an Apatani household and eat with them. Simple rooms, real conversation.
Bamboo groves
The Apatani manage large bamboo groves beside each village. An early walk with a village elder is the best way to see them.
Asking before photographs
People here are generous with visitors. Ask before you photograph anyone, and your guide will help with introductions.
Four days from Tezpur
The short trip we suggest to travellers who do not want long days on the road.

- Price. Each trip is priced for its group size, rooms and dates, so we quote after you tell us those. The proposal lists everything included and not included.
